Working with Wikiversity - the experience

I had a look at both ooe programs, LeMill and Wikiversity, before I registered in Wikiversity. Both have a well arranged structure. Nevertheless I think it's very important how the page looks like. In this point the page wikiversity adresses me at first. LeMill looks 'nice' and has some good menu bar but anyway I feel lost (font, font size, line pitch are too big > the content and its structure seem unproportional).
Wikiversity turns out to be easy and handy to use. I sometimes just wondered about unfitting headlines or unlogical orders; but all things take their time - Wikiversity is still in its initial stage. Further I have the feeling that some people are missing the point. As I understood: Wikipedia gives the information (theory) and Wikiversity is for the practical part. In Wikiversity there are texts about e.g. history which are out of place in my opinion; the history can be looked up in Wikipedia. But during the growth Wikiversity will probably get a more clear seperation to wikipedia.

Suzanne,

I too find the separation of Wikiversity from Wikipedia unclear. I believe that the activities we are doing with Teenu and Hans in this course is what wikiversity should be. When it comes to more self-directed learning, I believe that what WikiEducator has better pedagogical alignment with self directed learning within a wiki. The iDevices used within WikiEducator provide templates for building courses within a wiki. See this WikiEducator course as an example; http://wikieducator.org/CCNC/CCNC_Module_5/The_database_application/Database_Concepts

Hello Susanne,

see my comment at Mark's blog about the differentiation. It is unfortunately the people who have a certain expectation - but I am sure with time people get to know the idea about Wikiversity.

I give an example: when we voted at the German Wikiversity about the Slogan there were more than 170 ideas what Wikiversity could be.

btw: the slogan is: Lernen und Lehren (English: learning and teaching)

Greetings from Germany,
